On May 15th, the new exhibition layout of the Civic Museum of Castelbuono was inaugurated, the result of a renovation project in which BIA took part.

This intervention marks an important phase in the evolutionary journey of the Museum, now redesigned as a more accessible, inclusive, and contemporary space, capable of engaging with diverse audiences and enhancing the artistic and cultural heritage of a primary institution within the Sicilian and national context.

The project was funded under the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) – Mission 1 Culture (M1C3), Investment 1.2, dedicated to the removal of physical and cognitive barriers in cultural sites.

The role of BIA: content and accessibility

Within this process, BIA oversaw the creation of the project content, from audio content to 3D scans, accompanying the various development phases and facilitating dialogue among the partners involved.

The intervention is part of an integrated approach to cultural heritage enhancement, where museographic design, digital technologies, and accessibility become central elements in building the visitor experience.

BIA’s work helped guarantee coherence between project objectives, content, and the solutions adopted, with a vision oriented toward the quality and cultural impact of the intervention. The project has thus become the result of shared work combining different skills, museographic, technological, design, and communicative, which made it possible to build a more contemporary, inclusive visitor experience capable of enhancing cultural heritage through innovative tools fully integrated into the museum narrative.

A more accessible and inclusive museum

The main objective of the project was to improve both the physical and cognitive accessibility of the museum itinerary.

The new layout was designed to offer a more intuitive and legible experience, more inclusive for audiences with different needs, and more engaging from a sensory perspective.

In this direction, an important role was played by the introduction of tools and devices designed to expand the methods of enjoyment, making the Museum a space truly open to everyone. With this in mind, BIA took care of the creation of the new website, built according to high standards of accessibility and usability.

Immersive technologies and new ways of experiencing the museum

The renovation of the Museum integrates digital technologies and immersive solutions, used not as mere support, but as tools to strengthen the relationship between heritage and the public.

Among the activities developed, the 3D scanning of a selection of artworks allowed the creation of tactile installations integrated into the exhibition path.

These devices allow for a broader and more inclusive experience, offering new ways to access content and making the museum experience more participatory and mindful.

A choral project between expertise and innovation

The new layout of the Civic Museum of Castelbuono is the result of an articulate collaboration between various partners, working in harmony with the Works Director and the Museum management.

This network of expertise made possible an intervention capable of combining design vision, technological innovation, and content quality, generating a contemporary layout consistent with the museum’s needs.

A museum open to the community and new generations

Today, the Civic Museum of Castelbuono presents itself as a more welcoming and accessible space, more open to dialogue with the community, and capable of intercepting new audiences.

This project demonstrates how innovation, when guided by a solid cultural vision, can become a concrete tool for heritage enhancement and local territorial growth.

Enhancing heritage through new languages

The museum’s renovation project is part of a broader reflection on the role of cultural sites today: not just spaces for conservation, but places for experience, relationship, and storytelling, capable of activating new meanings and actively involving visitors.

Through project coordination, BIA contributed to building an intervention that looks to the future while maintaining a strong root in the heritage and identity of the local territory.
