news Immersive Technologies and Accessible Storytelling: The New Exhibition Path at the Minà Palumbo Museum

Since Saturday, July 19, the Francesco Minà Palumbo Natural History Museum in Castelbuono has reopened to the public with a completely renewed exhibition, the result of a collective project coordinated by BIA.

This intervention combines accessibility, storytelling, and immersive technologies to enhance one of the symbolic landmarks of the scientific and natural heritage of the Madonie.

Funded with PNRR resources under the M1C3 – Investment 1.2 program, the project has transformed the museum into an open, inclusive, and engaging space. At the heart of the exhibition is the legacy of Francesco Minà Palumbo – doctor, scientist, and artist from Castelbuono – reinterpreted through a narrative accessible to a wide-ranging audience.

The new setup, curated by Studio Dotdotdot, introduces tactile and digital devices, a touchless audio guide, a digital diorama of the Madonie landscape, and an immersive video about the tradition of manna harvesting. Each element is designed to make the museum a welcoming and inclusive place, where content, form, and technology interact seamlessly.

BIA’s coordinating role ensured a unified vision, fostering teamwork and guaranteeing that every decision aligned with the values of accessibility, sustainability, and the promotion of intangible heritage.

The contribution of the Municipality of Castelbuono – together with Museum president Michele Spallino and Museum director Salvino Leone – was fundamental, as was the collaboration of Studio Grassi Design, Inera, Komedia, and the local community, with the culinary support of Fiasconaro Srl.

The renewed Minà Palumbo presents itself as a model of a contemporary museum, capable of connecting local identity with innovation, memory with participation.
